Pencil Oars

Pencil oars are the original ‘toothpick’ blades used in the 1950s/60s and early 70s. We can also use these for presentation blades. These old wooden oars are first stripped back to bare wood and repaired where needed. They are then repainted and varnished to a high standard using oil based paints and varnish.

When they are ready for sign writing, this is done using traditional sign writing skills and methods, incorporating high quality materials including gold leaf.

The length of the oar loom may also be cut in half and fitted with a traditional hand crafted dowel mechanism. This makes the transport and storage of a full length oar easier.

Oars can be purchased in any number; from single blades to full sets.

You can give us any design you require and we will be happy to discuss any special requests.

We have produced presentation oars for the Cambridge and Oxford bumps and various regattas, collectors, weddings, pubs, corporate headquarters, shops, birthdays and other occasions.
