Oar Dowel Joints

A dowel is a piece of timber planed and shaped to fit the hollow centre that all oars have whether it is a Macon, Cleaver or Pencil oar. The dowel is hand made for each oar to fit tightly, thus ensuring that the shaft of the oar runs perfectly straight when pushed back together so you can also take it apart again if necessary.

We fit one dowel near the centre of the loom, leaving two sections of approximately 6’ each.

The cost to dowel an oar is in the region of £20 depending on the type of oar being doweled.
